CONGRESSMAN CRITZ CONTINUES DESPERATE CAMPAIGN OF DISTRACTION

Keith Rothfus  | Tue, Aug 21, 2012

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Pittsburgh, PA - Congressman Critz revealed today just how desperate he really is to distract from his failures in Washington in order to save his failed political career.  The Critz campaign, through the House Majority PAC – a Super PAC controlled by Critz’s mentor, Nancy Pelosi – began airing an ad today demonizing Keith Rothfus for being a “Wall Street Lawyer.”  The only problem, Rothfus has never been a Wall Street lawyer.  Straight out of the Obama playbook, this blatantly false and deceitful campaign ad is exactly the type of misleading politics that degrades the public discourse.

Keith Rothfus worked for a small law firm here in Pittsburgh.  While there, he worked with businesses large and small in software licensing and general product agreements, which allowed the companies to continue to grow and create jobs.  One of the clients of this firm was Bank of New York Mellon, a company that employs roughly 7,500 workers here in the Greater Pittsburgh Area.  For Congressman Critz to stretch this fact to mean that Rothfus is a "wealthy Wall Street Lawyer" and to connect Rothfus with TARP is utterly absurd and deceitful to the voters.  In this election that is so important to the American people, you would think their elected officials would hold them in a higher respect.  He should be ashamed and the voters deserve much better.

It is understandable that Critz doesn’t want to discuss his failure to create jobs and the record 42 months of above 8% unemployment in the Obama/Critz economy, but it is surprising that he criticizes a major employer whose PAC contributed to his long-time boss, the late Congressman Jack Murtha.  Bank of New York Mellon’s PAC has also contributed to the DCCC, so Critz will certainly want to renounce any money or ads from the DCCC.  He is attacking Rothfus for something he is at the same time benefiting from, Critz can’t have it both ways.

Instead of supporting President Obama’s big-government economic policies, Keith Rothfus will empower job creators right here in Pennsylvania and strengthen the middle class.  Bellow is a full fact check of the ad:

Critz Failed Attempt to Deceive the Voters The Facts
Millionaire Wall Street lawyer Keith Rothfus will fit right in, in Washington. Actually, Congressman Critz fits right in with the desperate distract, divide, and deceive campaign of President Obama.  Keith Rothfus has been to Wall Street once…as a tourist.  He is a private sector lawyer at a small firm in Pittsburgh and has never worked on Wall Street.

Keith Rothfus is also not a career politician like Congressman Critz, and has pledged to term limit himself and pledged not to take a congressional pension.  That’s hardly a “Washington insider.”
Big banks brought our economy to the brink, and then begged Washington for a bailout. Nancy Pelosi, leader of the Super PAC that made this ad for Congressman Critz, not only championed TARP but wanted even more taxpayer dollars diverted to the bailout [Reuters 1/25/09]
As a wealthy attorney, Keith Rothfus represented a Wall Street bank that received a bailout from taxpayers. First, can we stop the divisive class warfare?  We get enough from President Obama and the voters of southwestern PA deserve better.  Keith Rothfus’ work helped small and large companies create jobs – the same can’t be said for Congressman Critz.
Wall Street lawyer Keith Rothfus, how can you be part of the solution, when you’re already part of the problem? Congressman Critz wants you to believe a private sector family man is part of the problem while career politicians like him continue to support President Obama’s failed economic policies that have brought us a record 42 straight months of above 8% unemployment.  America’s middle class can’t afford any more of President Obama and Congressman Critz.
