FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Pittsburgh, PA - On Tuesday, it was revealed that Keith Rothfus has completely closed the gap between he and incumbent Congressman Mark Critz (D-Johnstown) in a poll that shows the race for Pennsylvania's Twelfth Congressional District in an all out tie, 38-38 among likely voters.
“I could not be more pleased with the momentum of this campaign," Rothfus said. "From day one this campaign has been about pushing back against the liberal agenda of President Obama and Congressman Critz, fighting to save Medicare from the $700 billion in cuts they placed on the program, fighting to save the middle class from the tax increases, rising gas prices, and rising electrical costs they've saddled them with, and fighting to end the complete economic failure of the Obama/Critz policies by empowering the workers and job creators here in Southwestern PA in order to bring back the sustainable jobs we so badly need and deserve."
Writes Shira Toeplitz:
Party committees, candidates and outside groups have barraged the airwaves in the district. But in the past few weeks, Democratic groups accounted for more airtime.
Republicans say Rothfus improved his position in the race despite the Democratic ad campaign. In July, Rothfus trailed Critz by 15 points in a similar survey from the NRCC and his campaign. This summer, a trio of Democratic surveys also showed Critz holding a smaller 6 to 10 point lead over Rothfus.
The new numbers underscore the competitiveness of the race. Roll Call rates this race as a Tossup.
"I want to thank all of our supporters and all of the volunteers who have given up so much of their time and energy for phone calling, door knocking, sign waving, and everything else," Rothfus continued. "Without your help we would not be able to achieve victory in November as we move to replace the current liberal policies of Obama/Critz with policies that empower the people here in Southwestern Pennsylvania, and now we are on the very cusp of it."
"This proves that despite the millions of dollars in outside special interest money being used to attack Keith with "blatantly false" claims in order to save their liberal colleague's political career, the people of Southwestern Pennsylvania are fed up with the political games and know that Keith supports the policies that will bring family-sustaining jobs back to Pennsylvania," said Jonathan Raso, spokesman for Rothfus for Congress. "Keith is absolutely dedicated to saving Medicare and pushing back against the policies of President Obama, he shares our values, principles, and commitments, and he will be the kind of leader the people of Southwestern Pennsylvania want and deserve."
