Jobs and the Economy

ALERT:  Congressman Critz supports President Obama's tax raise on 900,000 small businesses and 80% of Pennsylvania's manufacturers, which will cost 31,000 Pennsylvania jobs

The big government policies of the Obama administration have failed to produce a robust and growing economy that adds jobs and lets business flourish. From the threat of higher taxes, burdensome compliance costs, and mandates, coupled with unprecedented levels of government spending and deficits, President Obama and the Democrats in Congress have brought us the worst economic recovery since the Great Depression. It is time to change course.

Nearly 30 years ago, the former governor of California, Ronald Reagan, ran for President on a straightforward platform of limited government, controlled spending, reduced regulations, and low taxes. These policies brought us out of the “malaise” of the failed Carter years to stimulate job growth and strengthen the middle class.  But those policies are the direct opposite of the policies that President Obama and the Democratic leadership have pursued these last several years, and as a result, we’ve seen the exact opposite effect – 43 straight months of above 8% unemployment, rising energy costs, rising gas prices, and more Americans simply giving up looking for work than can find a job.

I will fight to return the Nation’s economic policies more toward those of our 40th President. I will:

  • Fight for a fairer tax code that removes special interest and keeps taxes low
  • Reform corporate taxes so that America is no longer a nation driving businesses out with the highest taxes in the world, but is instead a nation poised to compete and win in the global marketplace.
  • Roll back the onslaught of unnecessary and onerous regulations that have stunted our job growth.  This includes repealing Obamacare with its flurry of regulations and once-and-for-all ending the Obama Administration’s war on coal.
As they have before, these policies will promote growth and add the jobs that our economy so desperately needs. The Congressional Budget Office models currently project growth over the next decade at only 2 or 3 percent per year. This is simply not acceptable, as it only keeps up with the growth in population and would mean continued unemployment at the levels we see today. When we look around and see idled stores and factories, we must be motivated to change course.  There is no reason why we shouldn’t set our sights on the type of growth that will replenish our economy with family sustaining jobs and reduce unemployment to levels well below the 8% we have now.  Pro-growth policies based on controlled spending, reduced regulations, and low taxes will do just that.

"A wise and frugal Government, which shall restrain men from injuring one another, which shall leave them otherwise free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned. This is the sum of good government."
